REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhat do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than in other places, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How do we start shifting a meat-focused food culture?
Jennifer Holmes 10/03/2018 3:19 PMI’m not sure why, I wonder if it’s a lack of taste or quality in the plant foods some people are introduced to? Most of the time if someone is given a nutritious and tasty plant food option, they enjoy it and don’t miss the meat -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Meet My Local FarmersWhen you know who produces your food, you are connecting personally to your complex regional food system. What are the advantages of knowing who produces your food and where it comes from? Do you think this might enable someone to advocate for a better quality of life for those who produce their food, both near and far?
Jennifer Holmes 10/03/2018 3:17 PMIt’s special to connect with the person or farm where your food is produced. Placebo or not, many find comfort knowing their food was grown local and handles with care and genuine concern for providing health and satisfaction. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Choose Organic IngredientsCan organic farming feed the world? Which side of the argument do you fall on? Why?
Jennifer Holmes 10/03/2018 3:15 PMI hope so, I have seen studies showing organic farming being more productive and less wasteful than conventional but now I am concerned with what Is allowed to be used to farm organically -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Advocate for More Food OptionsGiven the impact of pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers on both the natural world and our food systems, what do you think about the use of these products in agriculture?
Jennifer Holmes 10/03/2018 3:13 PMIt’s increasingly more important to me. Where I live is directly affected by the use of pesticides and fertilizers, and our inlets, rivers, and even the ocean are impacted. Now people and domestic animals are getting ill and dying because of it. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Locally-Sourced MealsIf you were to only eat what is in season locally, what would be the hardest for you to give up?
Jennifer Holmes 10/03/2018 3:08 PMSometimes I crave fruit that is not in season but when available so delicious, like pineapple. I’m missing pineapple right now.
