Waste runoff from slaughterhouses pollutes local waters and creates ecological deadzones off our shores. When we harm animals, we harm ourselves.

Hummus is a staple food item at my house. Every week, I make at least one big batch of hummus. See link for the recipe that I use. I triple the recipe (that's what will fit in my food processor) and I don't add any water so as to make an amazing texture.

In the US to produce one pound (1 lb, 0.4kg) of steak requires, on average, 1,799 gallons of water – for pork it is 576 gallons of water and for a pound of chicken it is 468 gallons of water.

A dozen eggs = 636 gallons. That's right, every single egg requires an average of 53 gallons of water to produce. Chickens require water-intensive grain feed (about two pounds per every pound of chicken protein produced) as well as water for drinking and irrigation.

It takes 2,500 gallons of water, 12 pounds of grain, 35 pounds of topsoil and the energy equivalent of one gallon of gasoline to produce one pound of feedlot beef.
