Ryan's actions
Waste
Compost Food Waste
I will avoid sending up to .69 lbs (.31 kg) of food waste to the landfill each day by composting my food or learning how to.
Waste
Recycle Everything I Can
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will spend 15 minutes researching and recycling all materials that are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community.
Waste
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Historically, marginalized and low-income communities live closer to landfills, contributing to a multitude of health problems. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate.
Waste
Launch a Recycling Program
I will start a recycling program at my workplace or school. If a recycling program exists, I will advocate for ways to improve and expand it.
Waste
Personal Waste Audit
I will collect all of my unrecyclable, non-compostable trash to raise my awareness of how much I send to the landfill.
Nature
Explore My Area
I will explore at least one new hiking trail or nature walk in my area.
Food
Weekly Meal Planning
I will reduce food waste and save money by planning a weekly menu, only buying the ingredients I need.
Food
Whole Foods Diet
I will enjoy 3 meal(s) each day free of processed foods.

Ryan Inman 10/10/2018 4:08 PMI am understanding that awareness is key. Encouraging others to go plastic free for even a week is eye opening experience. The amount of trash we consume in single use plastics is amazing. I am excited about the social change we can make by being aware . No more sleepwalking through waste-
Jennie Howland 10/11/2018 7:36 AMI love this! I’ve gotten a lot of my team to start using for here ware while eating/drinking at work, but it’s still an uphill battle to make get them to use reusable cups for drinks they take to go—mainly I think it’s something that you need to force yourself to get in the habit of doing. I always have a reusable water bottle with me, and I have for years, but it’s hard to get others to latch on to those behaviors.

Ryan Inman 10/09/2018 6:16 PMFeeling really energized about keeping these good habits and how each little thing I improve on will make such a huge difference.-
Jennie Howland 10/10/2018 7:41 AMSo many of these actions can become permanent behavior changes, and are helping to make me mindful of more and more of my behaviors!

Ryan Inman 10/07/2018 9:08 PMToday I opened a straw at a restaurant out of habit, before my partner asked me what I was doing. Its nice to have someone keeping you in check. Also a great reminder on how we waste on autopilot. Always be prepared and aware of what's in front of you.-

Ryan Inman 10/04/2018 4:19 PMToday my challange was put to the test going out down town today with family. I remembered all of my own reusable container for water, coffee, utensils. I road the train into down town . I did create some plastic waste with 2 granola bars I packed with me. Over all though I feel today was a success. I will work on making my own granola bars to reduce the plastic waste from packaging. -
Ryan Inman 10/03/2018 7:22 PMMost challanges so far are going good. Getting my composting going. Keeping my reusable items bag with me (actually remembering it). Just being very aware of plastic I may encounter. Food packaging is everywhere in plastic. Super excited to keep learning new ways to reduce my impact !!
