    Energy Turn it off
How is electricity generated where you live? How does it impact the environment, animals, and humans?

Electricity here is generated several different ways, nuclear, hydroelectric, coal and wind. I think the coal is the worst, with it dirtying the air for both humans and animals. The other methods are much cleaner and better for our planet.

Walk more often at work between buildings when I have an appointment in a different building.

Food Try a New Way to Prep
Canning and pickling food is a great way to have delicious summer fruits and vegetables all year round. Just make sure to follow the canning and pickling guidelines from the USDA. What are some foods that you would like to preserve and enjoy later in the year?

We like to get corn on the cob in season, cut it off the cob, boil for about 5 minutes with seasonings, then seal in a freezer bag to enjoy in the middle of the winter when you cannot find it.  We also use much of our garden produce each year to make salsa, which we just made last weekend.

I love the corn idea!!! I never would have thought of doing something like that!

How do you practice self care?

I try to eat right, get exercise, get "me time" as often as I can. Also really important to me is to connect with my best friends and family often. What they say about close friends are better than therapy, is correct for me.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

How do you deal with the physical and emotional stress of the big problems we face? How can you help others cope?

    Julie Jacobson's avatar
    Julie Jacobson 10/08/2018 1:23 PM
To deal with the big problems, I try to do everything within my power to negate the effects of the big problems. I realize I am only one person, but together we can make a difference. To help others cope, I try to focus on the positive and also think of ways that I would deal with these big problems should they really become an issues in the near future vs. the far future.

How does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?

Practicing gratitude helps things look brighter when maybe they are not so bright. It helps you focus on the good things in your life instead of the bad things that might be happening. It also makes me want to put my efforts more toward things that are good, happy and positive.

What environmental factors affect human health in your region, and how do they affect it?

Water effects our area greatly. If we don't get enough snow pack each winter, water can be restricted. Our area needs water for agriculture as well as homeowners.
