REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Track my PurchasesWhat have you noticed about your purchases? Where are you inclined to make shifts, if any?
Mia Jimenez 10/23/2018 5:11 AMI tend to spend a good amount on food, but I manage to stay within my spending budget each month. I track my spending using Mint and my own personal spreadsheet. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Get Involved in the Water Justice MovementWho is affected by polluted water or a lack of access to water in your region? How are they affected?
Mia Jimenez 10/22/2018 9:35 AMThe homeless are probably most affected by lack of access to water in the DMV area, particularly when it comes to public showers. Personal hygiene and thus mental well-being suffer as a consequence. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Try a New Way to PrepCanning and pickling food is a great way to have delicious summer fruits and vegetables all year round. Just make sure to follow the canning and pickling guidelines from the USDA. What are some foods that you would like to preserve and enjoy later in the year?

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Watch a Documentary about Food SovereigntyHow does food sovereignty address the complex agrarian transition to modern food systems?
Mia Jimenez 10/13/2018 1:41 PMFood sovereignty allows people to be more in touch with where their food comes from and become involved in producing healthy, culturally authentic food using modern processes when necessary. Prior to watching the PBS documentary "Regaining Food Sovereignty", I was not familiar with the term, nor did I understand the depths to which it has affected large groups of people. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Eat MindfullyMindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How do your eating experiences differ when practicing mindfulness?
Mia Jimenez 10/11/2018 7:05 AMI tend to focus more on the process of eating and I'm more aware of how much I'm consuming at a given meal. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Avoid refined sugarBefore you started this challenge, did you think you were 'addicted' to sugar? How do you feel now?
Mia Jimenez 10/10/2018 7:02 AMI want to be more conscious of the amount of refined sugar I consume and fruits as a substitute for "sugar cravings". -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Online Energy AuditWhat most interested or surprised you about your own energy footprint?
Mia Jimenez 10/09/2018 9:56 AMHeating was the most energy intensive category from the assessment, which I was not expecting. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Whole Foods DietMichael Pollan states that "it is better to pay the grocer (our edit: or the farmer!) than the doctor." What are your thoughts on this?
Mia Jimenez 10/08/2018 4:46 AMThe less processed food is, the better it is for you! There is so much conflicting information available as to what is "healthy" to eat, that having one metric greatly simplifies my decision making.
