REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Whole Foods DietMichael Pollan states that "it is better to pay the grocer (our edit: or the farmer!) than the doctor." What are your thoughts on this?
Josh Koenecke 10/12/2018 10:40 AMCooking for myself is an important aspect of my life, because I can better control what goes into my body. The idea that paying the grocer is better than the doctor brings up and important point, that creating your own food from ingredients locally sourced can help your health greatly. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable Water BottleWhile water bottles serve an important role in places for health and safety, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. Can you identify the barriers in making this a new habit? How can you set yourself up for success in making this a permanent change?
Josh Koenecke 10/12/2018 10:38 AMI feel like some people, depending on where they grew up, have a certain stigma against tap water, but as someone who grew up on well water, I have no issue drinking from the tap. Water bottles are just a waste to me, and keeping a water bottle has become second-nature in my sports and personal life. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Walk InsteadHalf of all trips made in the US are three miles or less; 72% of them are driven. Do you feel that this fact applies to you? If so, how might you incorporate more muscle-powered transportation in your daily life?
Josh Koenecke 10/12/2018 10:37 AMI could easily drive the 2 miles to school and park closer to my classes, but walking helps me by saving money on gas as well as feeling good about myself for staying active and keeping a car off the street and the pollutants out of the air. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Exercise DailyHow can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?
Josh Koenecke 10/12/2018 10:35 AMBeing in sports helps a lot, because a lot of my best friends do this with me, so exercising comes really easily when I'm doing something I enjoy with people I enjoy being with. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Avoid refined sugarBefore you started this challenge, did you think you were 'addicted' to sugar? How do you feel now?
Josh Koenecke 10/12/2018 10:33 AMI didn't think I was, but after 12 days now without any added sugar in my diet, its clear that I have some cravings for food that is very high in sugar content. I would kill for an oreo right now, but I know that its best if I can hold back.
