Say No to Plastic Straws

An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.

It's cold and dark out there. Maybe the raspberry already has enough water. Winter is coming.

Adequately. Although I asked for no straw and it blew the guy's mind in confusion and he brought a bunch anyway. So it really didn't help.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

What inspires you to act on sustainable energy and other energy issues?

It's troubling to think that our civilization is built on a limited resource. What happens if we run out of oil? How do we travel? How do we heat our homes? How would we survive without the modern comforts I'm accustomed to? I have a black thumb, I can't grow my own food. I want those avocados that don't grow in my area. I wanna go to Europe! How will I get those things if we're not diversified in our methods of energy?

I suppose having a healthy planet and something for future generations is cool too. sure.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Simplicity Needs Vs. Wants
How is creativity necessary for practicing simplicity?

Well, that is not the question I saw when i answered. Simplicity spawns creativity. Don't want to have a lot of stuff, gotta double up the uses! Big books can double as step stools. Bathwater can wash clothes. Sandwiches can be recycled into other sandwiches.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Water Say No to Plastic Straws
What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?

i schedule too many activities in my days and fail at cooking ahead for my work lunches, so i'm super guilty of so many food containers going to the bins. I need to set up my GoBox account, like, yesterday.
But to my credit, I totes got the Garden Bar reusable box on deposit, so maybe I just need to eat there more.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Use Reusable Bags
What do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reuseable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to establish this a successful habit?

What did I buy and how far am i walking/biking? eyeliner? yams and kale? pumpkins? an obscene number of Halloween lights? Can I cram it in my purse? Can i balance it into a pyramid in my arms? Can I ride my bike one handed carrying my precious new treasures? If not, I accept the disposable and reuse it as a car or bathroom trash bag. or if it's pretty, a decorative gift bag. Lesson: Always carry a big purse with a roll up reusable and keep decorative gourd purchases to a minimum
