Jessica Lab 10/24/2018 10:15 AMGo WSP! Proud of us for reaching 3rd place! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Whole Foods DietMichael Pollan states that "it is better to pay the grocer (our edit: or the farmer!) than the doctor." What are your thoughts on this?
Jessica Lab 10/24/2018 10:10 AMI agree with Michael Pollan. I can definitely tell when I am eating poorly while on road trips or travelling, so I can't imagine always feeling like that! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Meet My Local FarmersWhen you know who produces your food, you are connecting personally to your complex regional food system. What are the advantages of knowing who produces your food and where it comes from? Do you think this might enable someone to advocate for a better quality of life for those who produce their food, both near and far?
Jessica Lab 10/24/2018 8:33 AMOne advantage of knowing who produces your food is getting a better understanding of how difficult and temperamental farming can be. If we all knew how hard it was, maybe there would be less food waste. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Learn More about Food DesertsWhat are the implications of access to nutritious food for a community?
Jessica Lab 10/23/2018 9:21 AMBased on my research, a major implication is obesity. When people only have access to corner stores full of cheap, processed, unhealthy foods, they are more likely to be obese. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Go get a check upHow do you practice self care?
-
Jessica Lab 10/19/2018 11:10 AMThese actions have been inspiring and helpful! And I want to win! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhat do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than in other places, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How do we start shifting a meat-focused food culture?
Jessica Lab 10/19/2018 9:44 AMI think the reason that people in North America eat more meat than in other places is because we are very removed from the meat processing process. Most people do not visit farms, watch documentaries, or generally want to know what happens to the animal for it to become "meat". We only think of meat as clean, plastic wrapped food to buy at the grocery store.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Work from HomeIt takes the average worker in the United States 26 minutes to travel to work. One way to fix long commutes would be to make cities more affordable. An even simpler option: promote the use of telework. Are you in an industry that would allow you to work from home? What are some obstacles you might find yourself facing while working from home?
Jessica Lab 10/19/2018 9:18 AMI am fortunate in that I can easily work from home whenever the need arises. I am also able to work from remote locations if I am travelling. An obstacle to working from home is missing out on the teamwork aspect of my position. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Explore My AreaHow can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place?
Jessica Lab 10/19/2018 9:13 AMSpending time outdoors is the best way to really learn about a place. Indoor stores can be the same wherever you are in the world, but each city/country/region is completely unique based on it's surrounding nature.-
Monica Martin 10/19/2018 9:20 AMSo true! I'm on vacation and just took a 40 minute walk around the neighborhood I'm staying in. I find it's the best way to get to know new places.

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Know My healthHow do you deal with the physical and emotional stress of the big problems we face? How can you help others cope?
Jessica Lab 10/19/2018 8:58 AMIt's important to have a support system and practice self-care. Also, disconnecting occasionally from the 24/7 news cycle can be very important.
