REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Weekly Meal PlanningAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?
Lora Langford 10/17/2018 9:49 AMI read an article a few years back about the waste from throwing away unused food so the initial surprise of this was a then rather than now for me. However, I have tried to employ the weekend meal planning and shopping in the past and found it successful. I find that the weeks that I have planned and shopped on the weekend allow me to have time to cook the meals and prevent me from panicking over what's for dinner and wasting the food from the last grocery trip. So, in the past, doing exactly what this challenge says is successful. I was doing really good on this up until a couple months ago so I have chosen to do this challenge to get back in the habit and to reduce wasting food and money. As far as where to spend the money, ANYWHERE else that isn't wasteful! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Do Nature ActivitiesWhat did you observe while spending time outside -- through sight, sound, smell and touch?
Lora Langford 10/16/2018 2:21 PMThe air was slightly chilly, but the sun was still a slightly warm. There was a light breeze, and a few clouds. I smelled the fresh scent of pine and the heavier scent of the forest. The sound of an irritated squirrel chittering filled the air as its fall collecting process was disturbed by our hiking by. A few birds were singing. There was a creaking of the trees as the breeze blew through. The sites were amazing including a panoramic vista of the mountains and trees with beautiful fall foliage. A light snow had fallen towards the top, further displaying the shift in seasons. It was truly a wonderful hike.
