Waste
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Historically, marginalized and low-income communities live closer to landfills, contributing to a multitude of health problems. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate.
Waste
Go Paperless
I will reduce the amount of paper mail that I receive by opting into paperless billing and ending unwanted subscriptions.
Waste
Use Reusable Bags
I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.
Nature
Go for a Daily Walk
I will take a 1-minute walk outside each day.
Health
Exercise Daily
Exercise is a great stress blaster! I will exercise for 5 minute(s) each day.
Create Your Own Action
Scavenger
I will make a meal from food scavenged from meeting leftovers.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Erik Lode 10/24/2018 7:32 AMThe cafeteria renovation shut down the dishwasher. I always bring my reusable cup and mostly remember to bring my own spoon and fork, but I don't know if they would allow me to bring my own soup bowl. -
Erik Lode 10/23/2018 7:03 AMWas hoping for rain today or tomorrow, but like rain the forecast has evaporated. -
Erik Lode 10/22/2018 8:24 AMAlmost crushed by a large trailer as I pedaled into work today, but I made it in one piece. -
Erik Lode 10/21/2018 7:52 AMIn winter I have double comforters on the bed, since the thermostat turns off overnight. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use Reusable BagsWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reuseable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to establish this a successful habit?
Erik Lode 10/21/2018 7:51 AMThis doesn't happen often, but sometimes I will get a "disposable" bag, which I will use for months to carry things as I'm biking around town. Eventually it tears and I recycle it, but I get good use of it until then. -
Erik Lode 10/20/2018 6:02 AMHelps with maintaining more comfortable inside humidity as well. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Go PaperlessReducing your paper mail can be such a freeing action to take -- by reducing what is coming in, you can reduce what is going into the recycling bin too. How does it make you feel? What is the next step you will take to reduce your waste?
Erik Lode 10/20/2018 6:02 AMYou can sign up for various opt-out services as well as update your privacy setting to not allow sharing to third-party vendors. -
Erik Lode 10/19/2018 6:14 AMIt's warm enough now I just shut off the thermostat entirely. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Reduce Single-Use DisposablesBringing your own bags and containers to the grocery store, and even to restaurants for leftovers, are a couple of ways to reduce your waste. What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Erik Lode 10/19/2018 6:12 AMI buy marked-down seafood at the grocery store. It's packaged in plastic. If I buy full-priced seafood I have the option of getting it wrapped in coated paper, but any unsold marked-down seafood must be thrown away, so it ends up the same.. -
Erik Lode 10/18/2018 7:24 AMIn winter I vent in the dryer. Why let warm, moist air escape?
