Christopher's actions
Energy
Online Energy Audit
I will complete an online energy audit of my home, office, or dorm room and identify my next steps for saving energy.
Health
Healthy Sleep
Effectively working for sustainability requires self care! I will commit to getting 15 more minute(s) of sleep each night to achieve at least 7 hours per night.
Health
Happiness
I will write down three things every day that I am grateful for, or send one email every day thanking or praising someone.
Community
Support Native Communities
I will use the resource links provided and spend 30 minutes learning about the native populations that lived in my area prior to colonization, and what I can do to support those that still exist.
Food
Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
I will watch 1 documentary(ies) about food sovereignty: the right of local peoples to control their own food systems including markets, ecological resources, food cultures and production methods.
Water
5-Minute Showers
I will save up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 2 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Nature
Support Local Pollinators
At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators to produce fruit. I will spend 60 minutes researching which plants support local native pollinators and plant some in my yard.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Support Local PollinatorsWhy is it important to take care of pollinators?
Christopher Lodi 10/24/2018 2:44 PMPollinators help other flowers, and vegetation produce. Pollinators are needed in order to help crops group, spread wildlife, and ensure that all plant based organisms can perform to what they are intended to do. -
Christopher Lodi 10/22/2018 1:55 PMChecked in to say what I've completed for my daily challenges -
Christopher Lodi 10/19/2018 8:20 AMSo I was pretty busy yesterday, but I added another challenge that I can do. I'll probably complete it sometime this weekend. -
Christopher Lodi 10/17/2018 9:55 AMI'm going to add another challenge tomorrow I think. Today I'm going to read over and see what else I can do. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Skip the StrawHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?
Christopher Lodi 10/15/2018 4:01 PMI could take the bikes that Jamie has provided for us when I don't want to use my car to get around campus. I don't use my car in general. But for the extremely rare occasion when I would use my car, biking is always an option.
To reduce even further, I've been following Jamie's footsteps in regards to putting a plastic cover over fountain drinks. Never really hit me until I saw him do that. So I've been slowly easing my way into not putting those covers on there.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWater 5-Minute ShowersFive minute showers are an impressive step toward reducing your water footprint. What is the next step you can take?
Christopher Lodi 10/15/2018 3:52 PMWell I think the next step would be to take 5 minute COLD showers. Still the same amount of water, but, less energy used to heat it. -
Christopher Lodi 10/14/2018 7:46 AMI completed another challenge today! Yay! Tomorrow I'll check out some more. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Watch a Documentary about Food SovereigntyHow does food sovereignty address the complex agrarian transition to modern food systems?
Christopher Lodi 10/14/2018 7:44 AMWe need to learn the ways of those that were on the lands before us. By accessing their knowledge and methods, we can build on their ways in order to implement a hybrid of both modern day agriculture and agriculture from indigenous people. They were living here long before the settlement of modern day nations. Have these elders teach their ways in order preserve what is around is. Through collaboration, we can take a step forward into being sustainable with the ecosystem around us. -
Christopher Lodi 10/13/2018 5:48 AMI'm going to try to do another challenge today! Maybe add an additional daily challenge. I'll have to look and see -
Christopher Lodi 10/11/2018 1:39 PMLogging in today to update my daily challenges.
