Luz's actions
Energy
Donate to or Volunteer for Low-Income Solar Initiatives
Whether it's by donating or volunteering, I will research the benefits of low-income solar and find out how I can support low-income solar initiatives in my area.
Waste
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Historically, marginalized and low-income communities live closer to landfills, contributing to a multitude of health problems. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate.
Waste
Use Reusable Bags
I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.
Waste
Choose Two-Sided Printing
I will save up to .21 lbs (.09 kg) of paper each day by switching from one-sided printing to two-sided.
Nature
Go for a Daily Walk
I will take a 15-minute walk outside each day.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 2 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Energy
Upgrade Heating & Cooling Units
I will replace inefficient heating and cooling units.

REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Donate to or Volunteer for Low-Income Solar InitiativesEquitable access, environmental justice and creating employment opportunities are just a few advantages of low-income solar programs. Can you think of other benefits that could come from initiatives like this? Which advantages of low-income solar do you find the most compelling?
Luz Lopez-Knicrumah 10/19/2018 11:21 AMCreating long term solutions that will have less impact on the environment. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Reduce Single-Use DisposablesBringing your own bags and containers to the grocery store, and even to restaurants for leftovers, are a couple of ways to reduce your waste. What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Upgrade Heating & Cooling UnitsWhat inspires you to act on sustainable energy and other energy issues?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Choose Two-Sided PrintingChoosing two-sided printing can be an easy adjustment on your computer settings. How can you help others make this same switch? Can it be encouraged company wide?
Luz Lopez-Knicrumah 10/17/2018 11:47 AMyes, we need to have posters and signs around the office to remind users to use two-sided settings. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable Water BottleWhile water bottles serve an important role in places for health and safety, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. Can you identify the barriers in making this a new habit? How can you set yourself up for success in making this a permanent change?
Luz Lopez-Knicrumah 10/15/2018 3:28 AM
Companies should be more health conscious and encourage customers to reuse bottles. A barrier is money, because some people find it cheaper to busy a plastic bottle. I will be more aware of my behavior and make every effort to change my habit. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Go for a Daily WalkHow do you experience your neighborhood or city differently when walking instead of driving?
Luz Lopez-Knicrumah 10/15/2018 3:24 AMIt slower paste and I am focusing on my surrounding such as noise, nature, birds, colors...just everything is visit. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use Reusable BagsWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reuseable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to establish this a successful habit?
