I have decided to make 2 "sustainability" packs. One for each car. I'll start with one of the Costco cooler bags, add 5 reusable bags, 3 cloth napkins (1 for each family member), 1 or 2 reusable cups, and 1 large collapsible food container. They will serve as my spur of the moment readiness kits! Saving me from having to take single use plastic and freeing up space in my home😀 I just have to remember to restock once pack items have been used.

Max's actions
Waste
Find Local Recycling Depots
I will spend at least 30 minutes finding out where to recycle the recyclable items that I can't put in my curbside bin.
Waste
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Historically, marginalized and low-income communities live closer to landfills, contributing to a multitude of health problems. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate.
Simplicity
Less Screen Time
I will replace 10 minute(s) of screen time each day with other activities.
Water
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Health
Eliminate Toxic Plastics
I will avoid buying toxic plastics - including polycarbonate, polystyrene and polyvinyl - and instead replace them with bioplastic or durable options.
Food
Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
I will watch 1 documentary(ies) about food sovereignty: the right of local peoples to control their own food systems including markets, ecological resources, food cultures and production methods.
Nature
Leave No Trace
I will practice the seven principles of Leave No Trace when doing nature activities alone or with family and friends.
Food
Buy From a Farmers Market
I will purchase produce and meat from a local farmers market or food co-op.
Energy
Replace Manual Thermostats
I will replace manual thermostats with programmable ones.

Max Lopez 10/23/2018 12:02 PMHas anyone else found it harder to remember to login daily? I feel like I didn't have a problem completing daily logins last year. I can't figure out why that would be. :( -
Max Lopez 10/23/2018 11:59 AMStill doing well. I completed my sustainabily packs and loaded them into our vehicles. I'm excited to try them out. I also decided to create a 3rd one using a backpack for times that I travel without a car. It will have less bags because anything I buy would most likely wind up in the backpack. -
Max Lopez 10/21/2018 2:40 PMYear 2 and I feel that this year is a deeper level. Last year I focused on fun learning. This year I focused on calm and stress free learning. Both years have been equally great! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Reduce Single-Use DisposablesBringing your own bags and containers to the grocery store, and even to restaurants for leftovers, are a couple of ways to reduce your waste. What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Max Lopez 10/21/2018 2:38 PMI have all the reusable products to enable me to never need to use single use plastic. My problem is that I often find myself stopping while I'm out to save time and gas. These spur of the moment stops cause me to have to take some single use plastics.
