erin's actions
Waste
Use Reusable Bags
I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.
Waste
Go Paperless
I will reduce the amount of paper mail that I receive by opting into paperless billing and ending unwanted subscriptions.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Energy
Upgrade My Windows
I will upgrade the windows or weatherstripping in my home or office to reduce air leaks and save on energy costs.
Health
Happiness
I will write down three things every day that I am grateful for, or send one email every day thanking or praising someone.
Transportation
Use Public Transit
I will use public transit 11 mile(s) each day and avoid sending up to 6.22 lbs of CO2 into Earth's atmosphere.
Water
Install a Toilet Tank Bank
I will reduce the amount of water flushed and save up to 11 gallons (41 L) of water each day by installing a toilet tank bank.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Go PaperlessReducing your paper mail can be such a freeing action to take -- by reducing what is coming in, you can reduce what is going into the recycling bin too. How does it make you feel? What is the next step you will take to reduce your waste?
erin meechan 10/05/2018 11:06 AMI am an analog person and need to see it in front of me so math class I am printing (double-sided). For my banking we are going paperless. -
erin meechan 10/05/2018 11:02 AMI am grateful my health, my family and my home. I especially am grateful for my family as we are making progress in school, work and activities like soccer, volleyball, outdoor school and housework...laundry!! -
erin meechan 10/05/2018 10:58 AMI started the challenge because, well to be honest, some of the challenges I already do daily. After I signed up, there were a few things I would like to be doing and I love team competition. -

erin meechan 10/03/2018 9:32 AMSo, far so good. I am only able to use public transportation one-way. That still is 11 miles and during rush hour the Max is actually faster. Taking out time to reflect is good for me and when it is not required I have a tendency to not reflect. I will remember to spend a few moments before my day launches to "...stop and smell the roses." As my late mother would say! -
erin meechan 10/03/2018 9:27 AMSo far so good. Though I am only using public transportation one way; it is still 11 miles! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Use Public TransitThe US spends roughly 20% of its federal budget on defense. In contrast, 2% goes to education, 20% goes to social security and 3% goes to transportation infrastructure. Do these numbers surprise you at all? Why or why not?
erin meechan 10/03/2018 9:25 AMGetting around is something so important that we take for granted. We don't take the time to really evaluate the road conditions or the emissions or to stop and smell the roses. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth HappinessHow does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?
erin meechan 10/03/2018 9:23 AMMy whole attitude and physical being changes. I am nicer and more relaxed; able to learn better and perform better. -
erin meechan 10/03/2018 9:21 AMI wish I could read on the bus; but I get carsick so it is time for reflection. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Install a Toilet Tank BankName some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?
erin meechan 9/25/2018 5:04 PMI would think, locally, the things we put down the drain. Things like detergent and body wash. Other things would be fertilizers; car washing; and disposal of toxic chemicals properly. On a global level, I am not sure.
