Tim's actions
Waste
Use a Reusable Mug
I will avoid sending 1 disposable cup(s) to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.
Water
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 2 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Water
5-Minute Showers
I will save up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers.
Simplicity
Meditate
I will meditate or create a moment of silence for 10 minute(s) each day to reflect on things important to me.
Energy
Replace Manual Thermostats
I will replace manual thermostats with programmable ones.
Energy
Turn it off
I will keep lights, electronics, and appliances turned off when not using them.
Energy
Choose LED Bulbs
I will replace 4 incandescent lightbulb(s) with Energy Star-certified LED bulbs, saving up to $14 per fixture per year.
Energy
Upgrade Heating & Cooling Units
I will replace inefficient heating and cooling units.
Community
Raise Money For a Nonprofit
I will raise money to support Northwest Earth Institute or another local nonprofit.

Tim Neufeld 10/17/2018 12:56 PMI don't understand why people laugh when I explain why I don't want a straw. I was in a restaurant yesterday for lunch and the straw came already in my drink, but I was pleased to see it was a paper/light cardboard straw, not plastic. It didn't work worth a damn, collapsing almost immediately and being rendered useless, but it wasn't plastic. -
Tim Neufeld 10/17/2018 12:54 PMWow. It cost Almost $7000 to replace the old furnace/AC, but we fully expect to see the benefits this winter. -
Tim Neufeld 10/17/2018 12:53 PMI'll admit that this has been made easier since our kids are all out of the house, but it's being done.
