Looking at the collective action feels really powerful. Many of the things that have been chosen are things that I already am doing, but that may be really difficult for others. I am proud to be part of a group working towards a greater planet.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Launch a Recycling Program
How might thinking creatively help us address big systems problems differently?

    Emma Ohlund's avatar
    Emma Ohlund 10/22/2018 10:18 AM
The issue often feels like one that we need to reach out to the types of people that are not only unaware, but those that know and do not care. We need to find ways to reach individuals to make changes in their lives as well as larger groups.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Simplicity De-Clutter My Home
How can you prevent yourself from accumulating more things in the future?

    Emma Ohlund's avatar
    Emma Ohlund 10/22/2018 10:15 AM
I consider myself to be rather minimalist, but I often will take things from people if they are free. I will think more about the things that I take and make sure that they will bring me value.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Simplicity Limit Social Media
Social media is a great way to keep us connected with loved ones, makes us laugh, and helps us to learn new things. It can also take more time than we realize or intend to give. After doing this action for a few days now, how do you feel? What do you notice?

    Emma Ohlund 10/18/2018 12:27 PM
I have really struggled with this action. I did really well for the first few days and I noticed that my mind was much clearer and I had more energy and time to do things that felt fulfilling and productive.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Simplicity Meditate
What would you like to invest more time in reflecting on?

    Emma Ohlund's avatar

I would like to invest more time investing in reflecting on how I can find peace inside even when there is chaos around me. I would like to reflect on being present and what that really feels like. I meditate daily right now and my mind still has a lot of chatter. There is always room to grow.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Nature Explore My Area
How can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place?

Being outdoors can help connect us to other people, to the trees that bring as oxygen, to the animals that stir around us. We experience the elements and expand our lenses when we explore outside. We see how big and how small we are in the natural world and it helps us to be more aware and present.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health Happiness
How does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?

    Emma Ohlund's avatar
    Emma Ohlund 10/18/2018 5:39 AM
I notice that the more that I acknowledge the things that I am thankful for, the more intuitively those grateful feelings arise. In doing this, I notice that I am motivated to connect with people and to spread that grace. I believe that we can all start small and create chain reactions.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health Exercise Daily
How can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?

    Emma Ohlund's avatar
    Emma Ohlund 10/17/2018 6:52 AM
This can be accomplished by joining a meet up group that does outdoor activities or exercising with a partner or friend.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Plant an Herb Garden
Consider the ways you can garden: a plot of land? a patio container? hanging basket? windowsill gardens? What would work best for your living situation and lifestyle?

Living in an apartment it can be challenging. I am lucky that we have access to some raised garden beds. I hope that as we continue to move forward that more apartment complexes will offer this. It is amazing the amount of food that can come from a small space given the right amount of water and nutrients. Apartment liver's can also grow there own food indoors using lights or simply making sprouts.

I care a lot about sustainability, and even with that mind set, I find it challenging to keep up with some of the things that could make a big difference. Always room for growth.
