Today is the last day of this challenge, it made me more aware of my surroundings.
  • Reflection Question
    Food Meet My Local Farmers
When you know who produces your food, you are connecting personally to your complex regional food system. What are the advantages of knowing who produces your food and where it comes from? Do you think this might enable someone to advocate for a better quality of life for those who produce their food, both near and far?

    Jerry Richardson 10/24/2018 2:27 PM
In the summer months I get all my veggies from my garden, which make me happy because I know what I put in the soil.
That is the same buying from someone you know. It is more heathly too.
  • Reflection Question
Food Try a New Way to Prep
Canning and pickling food is a great way to have delicious summer fruits and vegetables all year round. Just make sure to follow the canning and pickling guidelines from the USDA. What are some foods that you would like to preserve and enjoy later in the year?

    Jerry Richardson 10/23/2018 9:31 AM
I have canned pears, that taste like candy Mmmm good! I have canned tomato sauce too.
I also have vacuumed sealed beans, tomatoes, peaches, beets, and carrots all from my garden.

Worked out this morning at the gym, getting ready to go to the DC for KEEN and Derby night!
  • Reflection Question
    Energy Turn it off
How is electricity generated where you live? How does it impact the environment, animals, and humans?

    Jerry Richardson 10/22/2018 4:37 AM
Coal up north and dams down south. I have solar panels. More smug in the Slat Lake Valley, it is getting so bad when I retire we are leaving the valley. More issues with respiratory problems.
  • Reflection Question
    Energy Install Alternative Energy
How is your region being affected by climate change? How will it be affected in the future?

    Jerry Richardson 10/22/2018 4:32 AM
It has been hotter and drier in the summer, in fact we broke a record for the longest time without rain 39 days. Less snow and more mild temps in the winter. When we do get weather it is more intents.

  • Jerry Richardson 10/22/2018 4:29 AM
I had a omelet this morning with tomatoes from my garden!
  • Reflection Question
Waste Use a Reusable Water Bottle
While water bottles serve an important role in places for health and safety, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. Can you identify the barriers in making this a new habit? How can you set yourself up for success in making this a permanent change?

    Jerry Richardson 10/21/2018 3:57 PM
Not having a reusable water bottle in all my vehicles or at my desk. Get more reusable bottles and put them in all my vehicles and have them at my desk and in my home.
  • Reflection Question
    Energy Choose LED Bulbs
Changing lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! In what other ways can you exercise your civic duty to protect the environment and reduce carbon emissions?

    Jerry Richardson 10/20/2018 5:41 AM
Work from home more, turn the heat down 2 degrees, shut sprinkler system off for year and installing Solar panels. I have done all of these action items this year!
  • Reflection Question
    Energy Replace Manual Thermostats
How do you anticipate replacing your thermostats for programmable ones will positively impact your life?

    Jerry Richardson 10/20/2018 5:34 AM
It will save me money, so I can retire early and I set it and forget it, so it will simplify my life.
