    Waste Find Local Recycling Depots
Our ability to recycle certain things ebbs and flows based upon many factors. Luckily there are places that accept uncommon things to recycle or dispose of in a less harmful way. What did you find when looking for places to recycle items that can't be recycled in your curbside bin?

I have found a local recycling centre in Frome. Who although does specify household waste - I have found that I can drop all my plastic from food at this depot to be recycled.

Finding an alternative to milk cartons. These are non recyclable in Somerset. Glass would be the alternative, however Soya is not sold in glass. Looking for powder alternative in box.

This weekend I am researching my shopping. I intend on shopping smarter. No more plastic.

    Waste Go Paperless
Reducing your paper mail can be such a freeing action to take -- by reducing what is coming in, you can reduce what is going into the recycling bin too. How does it make you feel? What is the next step you will take to reduce your waste?

I have swapped to Pure Planet for my electricity, So no more paper bills.
I am attempting to manage my shopping by which products have less plastic and this makes me feel very good or more to the point I feel very bad when I buy plastic. The next step is to find alternative food products to those with plastic.

Last weekend I took up a challenge to pick up litter in my local village. I recruited my 3 year old to help me. We went to the play park where we knew there would be litter. We spent an hour collecting and gathered a big bag full of majority plastic rubbish. We laid out the rubbish, separating into plastic, bottles and cardboard. We had 7 bottles that we knew we could recycle. The rest unfortunately was not classed as recyclable items by our council. We noticed the majority of the plastic were wrappings of sweets from the Co op. In fact the store brand sweets. So we wrote a letter and returned the sweet packets to the company with a note asking them to take more responsibility for the packaging they are producing. The worrying point is that if recycling is not readily available and easy to do, people will not do it.

    Waste Recycle Everything I Can
What have you learned about what is accepted by local haulers for recycling, what you can drop off or ship to certain places, and what is not recyclable in your area? What is the most difficult part of recycling for you?

I have learnt that Somerset does not recycle plastic. Only plastic bottles. And yet the council charges for full recycling.
