Julie's actions
Community
Support Native Communities
I will use the resource links provided and spend 60 minutes learning about the native populations that lived in my area prior to colonization, and what I can do to support those that still exist.
Water
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 3 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Community
Help Others
I will offer to help 1 person(s) who are in need each day.
Health
Go get a check up
I will make an appointment for my annual physical.
Health
Happiness
I will write down three things every day that I am grateful for, or send one email every day thanking or praising someone.
Health
Know My health
I will get my Core Four Biometrics tests (blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar and BMI).
Energy
Power Down the Computer
I will power down my computer and monitor when not using it for more than 2 hours, saving up to (1.1) lbs of CO2 each day that I do this.
Health
Exercise Daily
Exercise is a great stress blaster! I will exercise for 30 minute(s) each day.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

James McPhail 10/15/2018 7:00 PMJulie, doesn't it seem odd/cool how 1 small step cascades into others? Small steps take us on long journeys, right? And we can be grateful for the scenery on the way.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Say No to Plastic StrawsWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Julie Scott 10/05/2018 11:57 AMI found a cup to take to my favorite coffee shop the last couple of days. I think it is silly that I felt like one of those "environmental" people when I first brought it in, but all of the baristas were awesome. Sometimes I have to get out of my own head and quit thinking about what others will think of something as silly as bringing my own cup to the coffee shop. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Exercise DailyHow can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?
Julie Scott 10/04/2018 12:34 PMI love to go hiking with my friend on the weekend, we get out in the foothills and talk and let her dog run all over! Love it! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth HappinessHow does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?
