REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicityBuilding community is good for your soul and fun to do! What were some of the positive outcomes that came out of your group garage sale?
Heidi Sickert 10/22/2018 1:22 PMWe decided to hold a garage sale to benefit a wonderful music nonprofit in North PDX called Ethos. We had good sales during the day and afterwards I'm still selling items. So glad to see good used products go to other homes and $ to an awesome community organization! -
Heidi Sickert 10/21/2018 1:25 PMGO Team Eco-Panthers! We're in the home stretch and I hope you all realize what AMAZING changes and contributions you are making through your participation in this challenge. THANK YOU for all you do, think, create and inspire! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodWhat do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than in other places, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How do we start shifting a meat-focused food culture?
Heidi Sickert 10/17/2018 3:17 PMGrowing up with immigrant grandparents, I know that they associated meat with doing well for their family. My grandmother raised her own turkeys and we always ate one for Christmas to celebrate family and thankfulness. That said, my grandmother also had an enormous garden and not only did we regularly eat fresh produce but she had an impressive basement full of canned food that lasted them through the cold winters in the Midwest. I try each year to further can foods and my garden is still a work in progress. I would say that time constraints are my biggest barriers to growing/canning my own food. -
Heidi Sickert 10/17/2018 3:11 PMToday, I spent some time helping a friend figure out a vegan menu for a dinner she was hosting. It was encouraging that I had some good suggestions since removing several foods including cow dairy from my own food selections.
Anyone have recommendations for their favorite Vegan Cookbooks? Thanks!
