REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhat do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than in other places, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How do we start shifting a meat-focused food culture?
Amanda Sparks 10/19/2018 1:49 PMWe have the money to do so as well as the resources to get inexpensive meat. I think trending diets as well as health reports play a role in food consumption. I think meat substitute items have gotten tastier and can help shift the focus. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Choose Organic IngredientsCan organic farming feed the world? Which side of the argument do you fall on? Why?
Amanda Sparks 10/19/2018 1:44 PMI agree with organic farming in the sense of conservation and reducing pollution but it isn't economically ideal. I think most organic farming is done on a smaller scale, and the population is growing fast and furious. I'm also not sure that organic food has more nutrients than conventional farmed foods. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Weekly Meal PlanningAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?
Amanda Sparks 10/19/2018 1:37 PMUnfortunately, this doesn't surprise me--and I've been guilty of having to throw out food. I would much rather put that money away than waste it.
