Last day of the Eco-Challenge! Let's not stop our consciousness just because the month is ending!

The ecochallenege has been really eye opening! There are so many more things I can do to help the environment.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy
What most interested or surprised you about your own energy footprint?

    Mackenzie Stabenow's avatar
    Mackenzie Stabenow 10/23/2018 2:01 PM
I was surprised at how much my energy footprint spikes in the summer due to my extreme obsessiveness to keep the thermostat at 68/69. I hate being hot! I think I'll start changing during the day when Im out of the house.

What sustainability issues are most pressing or prominent where you live?

Our carbon footprints are quite large here because of the lack of good public transportation. However, I think that we can improve that by ride share.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

How does environmental quality influence your sense of community?

Environmental quality influences the activities you can participate in, in your community! Earth Day is one of the most wonderful days in Forrest Park. All because of the environment.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food
Consider the ways you can garden: a plot of land? a patio container? hanging basket? windowsill gardens? What would work best for your living situation and lifestyle?

My boyfriend and I planted some basil! It's in a small windowsill garden pot. We cant wait to use it in pasta!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Nature
Amongst the motivations for foraging are: a source of food; means of income; connecting with nature; cultural tradition; or transmitting "local ecological knowledge, and a means for stewarding local and native plant populations" (McLain et al. 2012, 13). Which of these would be your chief motivation and why?

    Mackenzie Stabenow 10/22/2018 12:59 PM
Connecting with nature would be my main motivation. I love being outdoors and spending time with friends when outdoors. Spending time with my feet in the grass, dirt, river.... it's awesome!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Nature
How can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place?

This past weekend I went to a park I frequent and tried out a new trail. It's so peaceful to smell the fresh air especially when I live in a city area. My calves are killing me from the 4 mile hike tho!
