Linn's actions
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Waste
Recycle Everything I Can
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will spend 15 minutes researching and recycling all materials that are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community.
Health
Happiness
I will write down three things every day that I am grateful for, or send one email every day thanking or praising someone.
Simplicity
Meditate
I will meditate or create a moment of silence for 10 minute(s) each day to reflect on things important to me.
Nature
Forage for My Food
I will use the 'Learn More' resources below to find where I can forage for my own food locally.
Energy
Switch to Cold Water
I will switch to washing my clothes in cold water, saving up to 1,600 lbs of C02 over the course of the next year.
Community
Join my Neighborhood Association
I will join my neighborhood association or another local group.
Health
Support Pollution Reduction
I will spend at least 10 minutes learning about water and air quality issues in my area, how they are impacting human and environmental health, and how I can help.
Health
Go get a check up
I will make an appointment for my annual physical.
Health
Learn More about Food Deserts
I will spend 10 minutes learning about food deserts and find out how I can advocate for healthy and fresh food in my region.
Health
Audit Toxic Cleaning Products in my Home
I will spend 10 minutes researching toxic chemicals found in cleaning supplies and personal care products and remove them from my home.
Energy
Choose LED Bulbs
I will replace 1 incandescent lightbulb(s) with Energy Star-certified LED bulbs, saving up to $14 per fixture per year.
Community
Support Native Communities
I will use the resource links provided and spend 10 minutes learning about the native populations that lived in my area prior to colonization, and what I can do to support those that still exist.
Food
Smart Seafood Choices
I will visit seafoodwatch.org or download the app and commit to making better seafood choices for a healthier ocean.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Skip the StrawHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?
Linn Stanley 10/04/2018 9:51 AMA second post on plastic straws. I just realized that my office has plastic stirrers and I've been using them every day for as long as I can recall. I will stop using these and find out if we can switch to a more sustainable option.-
Linn Stanley 10/17/2018 3:21 PMI asked and the office is switching to wood, biodegradable stirrers. Hopefully it's a small change that leads to a larger awareness and conversation. -
Meghan Jones 10/04/2018 2:56 PMGreat idea! Wooden stir sticks could be an option that is more sustainable than plastic. We use those in the Portland office. Let us know if you find something even better!

Linn Stanley 10/03/2018 8:44 AMI just purchased some cool, multicolored metal straws for the kids to use when we eat out. I'd never really thought about plastic straw waste before and now I know there are a lot of alternatives, including glass and bamboo.
