REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Watch a Documentary about Food SovereigntyHow does food sovereignty address the complex agrarian transition to modern food systems?
Susan Statler 10/23/2018 9:35 PMFood sovereignty-based approaches to health in specific contexts, such as advancing healthy school food systems, promoting soil fertility, gender equity and nutrition, and addressing structural racism, can complement the longer-term socio-political restructuring processes that health equity requires. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Choose Clean/Renewable EnergyHow might you be able to get others involved in advocating for the shift to clean energy?
Susan Statler 10/23/2018 9:17 PMJust finishing my Master Recycler program and ready for putting in public time at various events. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Online Energy AuditWhat most interested or surprised you about your own energy footprint?
Susan Statler 10/23/2018 9:13 PMThe water heater is the biggest energy drain, even above a fridge and dish washer. It would be cool to have whole house actual audit, but probably better spent is a more efficient dishwasher. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Collect Rain WaterTrace the water that flows down the drain from your house to the largest body of water nearby. What is the route it takes?
Susan Statler 10/15/2018 2:38 PMIf the water is not absorbed by the yard, it goes to a sewer by our sidewalk. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Eco-friendly GardeningWhat are the most prominent water concerns in your area? Examples include drought, flooding, pollution, access, security, and privatization.
Susan Statler 10/14/2018 7:51 PMWe are fortunate to have large rivers and oceans in our NW. The biggest issue is keeping on pollution issues. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Personal Waste AuditWhy is it so difficult to understand the impacts our purchases and waste have on other people, animals, and places? How might your experience with this challenge impact your future consumption and choices?
Susan Statler 10/13/2018 5:55 PMProducts are packaged with clamshells or hard plastic A LOT. I can bring mesh bags for fruit and vegetables for unpackaged items. For some, I can avoid the non recycle packaging, but I am still searching for ways to handle some. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater 5-Minute ShowersFive minute showers are an impressive step toward reducing your water footprint. What is the next step you can take?
Susan Statler 10/10/2018 10:45 PMFigure out how to have hot water sooner...house was built with water heater at end of house. Look at grey water Recycle.
Taking a freezing shower is not practical nor is running the water. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Visit a Waste Management FacilityField trip! What a fun way to learn about our impact and consumption! What facility did you visit? What did you learn? Did you take anyone with you?
Susan Statler 10/09/2018 4:47 PMFar West Recycling, Metro Transfer Station and Hazardess Waste Facility, Recology Compost Facility. Went with the Master Recycler class. Learned the process, what is accepted, problems encountered, impact on our environment. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Find Local Recycling DepotsOur ability to recycle certain things ebbs and flows based upon many factors. Luckily there are places that accept uncommon things to recycle or dispose of in a less harmful way. What did you find when looking for places to recycle items that can't be recycled in your curbside bin?
Susan Statler 10/08/2018 11:21 PMWonderful ways to reuse and restore, even to create art pieces. Plastics are difficult, but there are some that can be recycled in other places. Batteries, lighting, hazards material have places as well. I will keep asking and researching, reading posts or blogs on alternatives to help me find more ways to reach beyond the curbside. -
Susan Statler 10/05/2018 2:02 PMJust found a Pinterest site on line with articles related to this challenge and by categories. It’s a good adjunct to what we are learning. Learning is best if reinforced and this challenge also helps.-
Jennifer Nelson Sneed 10/07/2018 8:15 PMHi! Could you be the team captain? I'm overwhelmed leading my office team and can't really be the cheerleader here. I'll still help with technical questions as they arise.
