Waste

Skip the Straw

Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 3 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.

So I have stopped using plastic straws and um..forced my boyfriend to stop using straws also. In the past couple of weeks, anytime we go out (which we will be stopping once we move into our place where we can make our own food and wont need to go out), we always get straws. I have refused for people to give me straws but in the end of a little more than a week, I have collected over like 5 straws each. It is ridiculous and obviously I have noticed exactly WHY straws are one of the top biggest things that are polluting our ocean. Straws need to be banned everywhere like plastic bags are banned in California, etc.

How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?

I will be taking any of what my friends use and might throw away as trash and recycle it at my home. This in turn will basically force me to collect trash and keep it in my car for a moment but I have brought in a recycling bag to keep them in unti l get home. Being able to educate friends on the uses of recycling and what we can do to help this plane collectively and individually is of vital importance because that educating may affect someone else they know too!

So this is my first day starting with H.E.A.T. I am very excited to share my story of recycling and what I am doing everyday to help the Earth. Seems to me that my consistency of recycling has been rubbing off on my boyfriend so that's one good step for the planet lol although the nagging helps a lot. I have been doing a lot to help the planet but there is SO MUCH MORE we can each do individually and even little things help if everyone works together! Go about your day but consider what you can do to help Mother Earth in everything you do <3
