Leah's actions
Food
Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
I will watch 2 documentary(ies) about food sovereignty: the right of local peoples to control their own food systems including markets, ecological resources, food cultures and production methods.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 2 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Food
Whole Foods Diet
I will enjoy 2 meal(s) each day free of processed foods.
Waste
Use Reusable Bags
I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.
Simplicity
Needs Vs. Wants
I will adopt a "Needs Vs. Wants" approach and only buy things I need.
Health
Healthy Sleep
Effectively working for sustainability requires self care! I will commit to getting 20 more minute(s) of sleep each night to achieve at least 7 hours per night.
Participant Feed

Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

Leah Struss 10/22/2018 12:45 PMThis is a very interesting challenge. I wish I could add more items my challenge or swap them out without losing points! I think it is interesting to see the impact I have had. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Needs Vs. WantsHow is creativity necessary for practicing simplicity?
Leah Struss 10/17/2018 1:20 PMI think it forces you to do more with less. I think it also allows me time to be "bored" and I can use my mental focus for good. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Healthy SleepConsider how many hours of sleep you get now. How would you like to shift your sleep patterns? What are you finding works for you to be successful in this action?
Leah Struss 10/17/2018 1:20 PMI would like to be able to shift to go to bed earlier and wake up earlier to allow for my "me" time. I have been putting the kids to bed a half hour earlier to help adjust my own schedule. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Skip the StrawHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?
Leah Struss 10/17/2018 1:19 PMI refuse plastic bags. I have used our lonely socks to make kids crafts at home.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use Reusable BagsWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reuseable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to establish this a successful habit?
Leah Struss 10/17/2018 1:18 PMI have reusable bags in two places in my car, I also carry one in my purse. I also put them back as soon as I empty the bags, so I always have at least one with me. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Watch a Documentary about Food SovereigntyHow does food sovereignty address the complex agrarian transition to modern food systems?
Leah Struss 10/10/2018 2:07 PMI have learned the impact of a plant vs meat based diet. I have also learned about processed foods

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Whole Foods DietMichael Pollan states that "it is better to pay the grocer (our edit: or the farmer!) than the doctor." What are your thoughts on this?
Leah Struss 10/03/2018 9:22 AMI think that making a conscious effort to eat healthy and focus on being proactive (eating well) than reactive (going to the doctor for illnesses) -
Leah Struss 9/21/2018 9:31 AMI am excited to learn more information about how to be more eco-friendly
