REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Buy From a Farmers MarketWhat is one food choice that you make, or could make, that would do more good and less harm?
Danielle Taylor 10/25/2018 1:10 PMEvery day i start my day off with a smoothie with fresh fruit. Then the rest of my day consists of water. I am doing good using the fresh fruit instead of frozen by not sending the plastic to the waste yards. My water comes from the tap by using a reusable bottle. if for any reason I have to buy water, I make sure it is a recyclable material that gets put into our recycle bin when I get home. We also make a lot of casseroles at home that use veggies. I need to start buying them fresh from more farmer markets. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Try a New Way to PrepCanning and pickling food is a great way to have delicious summer fruits and vegetables all year round. Just make sure to follow the canning and pickling guidelines from the USDA. What are some foods that you would like to preserve and enjoy later in the year?
Danielle Taylor 10/22/2018 7:39 AMI started putting together a binder with different types of vegetables like carrots, green beans, corn and asparagus. I also found some canning recipes for jellies and different types of apples that my kids would like. I have already set up a time with my mother in November to do some canning and also in December to make pirogie's that we can freeze for the winter. In the spring and summer I am going to buy bushels of corn on the cob to can as well!

REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Upgrade My WindowsHow does improving your home's energy efficiency help you better live out your values?
Danielle Taylor 10/22/2018 7:26 AMImproving my homes energy saves us money over time. This helps save for vacations and time with my family. It gives us more funds to take our children out to do family activities and to not worry about living paycheck to paycheck or if we have an emergency with our home or vehicles, whether or not we have the funds. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Practice Gratitude for EarthKathleen Dean Moore says that a sense of gratitude leads to a sense of moral obligation. Do you agree? How do we cultivate a sense of gratitude as individuals, and as a society?
Danielle Taylor 10/18/2018 7:42 AMI definately agree. If you can't and don't appreciate the environment you have around you your not going to understand how your affecting it. If you take the time to spend even 10 minutes a day outdoors, which is one of my daily challenges, listening and taking in the animals and the fresh air, you can better understand what you need to do to preserve those things. I believe that our society relies too much on electronics and inventions and we have lost how to do things on our own. This over time has damaged our eco system in so many ways. I am thankful that things are changing and more people are aware of it now and we are doing something to save it. -
Danielle Taylor 10/18/2018 7:35 AMSo yesterday my oldest daughter brought home an "energy saver" box from Board of Water and Light, which every student received one. In the box was LED light bulbs, faucet aerators for the sink and bathroom, a shower head, LED night light, water saver measuring bag and a shower timer. We are so excited to install all of these this weekend and to take some selfies doing it. We have to complete it together and fill out a survey before and a survey a week after installation. Cannot wait to see how much of a difference it makes on our next bill! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Join my Neighborhood AssociationHow can your community support inclusive decision making?
Danielle Taylor 10/15/2018 12:33 PMHaving the community involvement includes different styles and personalities. This in turn can provide different ideas on how to improve the community itself. Bringing a whole community together will bring the different personality traits and ideas together because everyone wants one similar thing, to better their community and the people in it. They are going to want to put differences aside to make a mutual decision that helps them all and not just one individual. Everyone is going to work together to make the community a better place to live and a desirable community for outsiders. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Switch to Cold WaterWhat do you plan to do with the money you save from making more energy efficient choices?
Danielle Taylor 10/15/2018 9:04 AMI have been with my husband for almost 4 years and we have never taken a family trip with our kids. In 2020 my parents are renewing their wedding vows in Florida. My husband and I have started saving and planning for this trip because we would like to take our kids to Disney World and Epcot because none of them have never been there. We will be gone a week and there are 7 of us in my family so if I can save money for this trip also by helping our environment, its a win-win situation! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Install a Toilet Tank BankName some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?
Danielle Taylor 10/14/2018 6:29 PMThe cleaning up of trash makes a huge impact. Whether at the beach, a river or pond or even trash lying around in the streets. Keeping things picked up ensures that it doesn't make its way into our water systems . -
Danielle Taylor 10/05/2018 8:42 AM
Getting to the end of week one I already feel like this challenge has been a great success! Two of my daily challenges that I have decided to do together is taking in the outdoors for 10 minutes a day and writing what I am grateful for. Every day this week after I have gotten homework and dinner done with my family I take that time to sit on my front porch and write about my day and what I am thankful for. It makes me feel so good and relaxed. I am more appreciative of the things I do have rather than what I do not. Cant wait to see where I am and how I feel by the end of the challenge. -
Danielle Taylor 10/03/2018 11:56 AMI came into this challenge not knowing what to expect. Three weeks ago I started to change my lifestyle to incorporate more healthy choices. Starting this challenge has encouraged me more to continue my healthy choices for myself and my family. Choosing environmentally friendly challenges is a great feeling and will get me into a routine of making the same challenges when I am done .
