  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Nature Leave No Trace
Educator Stephanie Kaza advises her students to focus on what they care about most when addressing the enormity of ecological problems. Is there a specific area you feel particularly called to work on?

I always try to leave a camp site cleaner than I found it.  I pick up items that were there before I arrived.  Just seems to be the curteous thing to do.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Nature Go for a Daily Walk
How do you experience your neighborhood or city differently when walking instead of driving?

I hear the birds and other forest creatures when walking in my neighborhood.  I live in the country with lots of trees.  There are a variety of birds, including owls, crows, hawks, ducks, geese and turkeys.  Along with deer, elk, moose, porcupine, coyote and who knows what else.  I love knowing that the animals are around even if I don't see them.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Simplicity Go for a Daily Walk
Fresh air and movement are good for our entire being and can help us think more clearly and creatively. How does taking a walk each day affect yourself and/or your work?

Even a brief walk helps to keep me awake.  I love looking at the world around me whether in the city or country.  Sometimes a walk is what I need to reflect on a problem or situation.  My body just feels better in general after even a short walk.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Use Public Transit
The US spends roughly 20% of its federal budget on defense. In contrast, 2% goes to education, 20% goes to social security and 3% goes to transportation infrastructure. Do these numbers surprise you at all? Why or why not?

Not surprised. However, I would prefer that the numbers were more equitable between the areas.
