Tim's actions
Health
Healthy Sleep
Effectively working for sustainability requires self care! I will commit to getting 60 more minute(s) of sleep each night to achieve at least 7 hours per night.
Energy
Turn it off
I will keep lights, electronics, and appliances turned off when not using them.
Nature
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 30 minute(s) each day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside.
Energy
Power Down the Computer
I will power down my computer and monitor when not using it for more than 2 hours, saving up to (1.1) lbs of CO2 each day that I do this.
Nature
Practice Gratitude for Earth
I will spend 30 minute(s) each day outside, practicing gratitude (prayer, meditation, journaling, etc.) for Earth and the nature surrounding me.

REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Practice Gratitude for EarthKathleen Dean Moore says that a sense of gratitude leads to a sense of moral obligation. Do you agree? How do we cultivate a sense of gratitude as individuals, and as a society?
Tim Thiessen 10/03/2018 11:02 AMI find that being grateful for all that the earth provides does lead to feeling obligated to protect the Earth and ensure its sustanability. To develop a sense of gratitude we need to understand how the things we take for granted stem from processes in the natural cycle. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Spend Time OutsideRachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?
Tim Thiessen 10/03/2018 10:54 AMI find that I do feel more at peace with myself after spending time outside. A culture that spends the majority of its time indoors becomes focused on their immediate surroundings and how that gratifies them soley. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Healthy SleepConsider how many hours of sleep you get now. How would you like to shift your sleep patterns? What are you finding works for you to be successful in this action?
Tim Thiessen 10/03/2018 10:51 AMI would like to shift my sleep pattern forward by at least an hour. I find that going to the gym earlier in the day and reducing the amount of blue light in my bedroom helps. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Power Down the ComputerWhat are other easy things you could do to save energy and reduce your environmental footprint?
Tim Thiessen 10/03/2018 10:30 AMRemembering to leave the house powered down for the day and to use the heater sparingly. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Turn it offHow is electricity generated where you live? How does it impact the environment, animals, and humans?
Tim Thiessen 10/03/2018 10:29 AMOur electriciry mostly comes from dams and natural gas. This can disturb the local fish life, and natural gas is finite and will not be able to last with the rate of consumption.
