REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Forage for My FoodAmongst the motivations for foraging are: a source of food; means of income; connecting with nature; cultural tradition; or transmitting "local ecological knowledge, and a means for stewarding local and native plant populations" (McLain et al. 2012, 13). Which of these would be your chief motivation and why?
Kelly Timmerman 10/20/2018 11:18 AMMy chief motivation would be to "[steward] local and native plant populations". We live in a world where it is possible to purchase fruits, vegetables, and other foodstuffs out of season and from all across the world. A better understanding of what is available locally, even native plants, might help to ease some of the economic and ecological strain we create with our consumer habits. -

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Find Local Recycling DepotsOur ability to recycle certain things ebbs and flows based upon many factors. Luckily there are places that accept uncommon things to recycle or dispose of in a less harmful way. What did you find when looking for places to recycle items that can't be recycled in your curbside bin?
Kelly Timmerman 10/16/2018 7:24 PMI didn't know that there were major retailers out there (Target, for example) that help shoppers recycle items that aren't accepted curbside. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth HappinessHow does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?
Kelly Timmerman 10/10/2018 5:37 PMThere have been a lot of studies recently proving that people who practice gratitude are often happier and more positive than those who do not. Happier people are, in turn, much more likely to feel motivated to make positive changes and help others to do the same. I appreciate that gratitude helps me to feel grounded during the chaos of every day life. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Needs Vs. WantsHow is creativity necessary for practicing simplicity?
Kelly Timmerman 10/06/2018 9:29 AMLearning to "live without" or live more simply means coming up with new and unique uses for the things you designate as necessities. Empty bottles or boxes can be reused to help organize your home instead of buying new containers, for example. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Buy From a Farmers MarketWhat is one food choice that you make, or could make, that would do more good and less harm?
Kelly Timmerman 10/02/2018 4:49 PMI didn't realize until reading about this challenge that I actually already eat one vegetarian/vegan meal every day. However, I would like to decrease the amount of pre-packaged foods I consume, especially those foods in non-recyclable packaging.
