Simplicity
Needs Vs. Wants
I will adopt a "Needs Vs. Wants" approach and only buy things I need.
Simplicity
Track my Purchases
I will spend 20 minutes each day maintaining a record of all my purchases and learning about my spending habits.

Waste
Advocate For More Food Packaging Options
I will advocate for alternatives to single-use packaging at local grocery stores, markets, at work, or on campus.
Water
Install a Toilet Tank Bank
I will reduce the amount of water flushed and save up to 11 gallons (41 L) of water each day by installing a toilet tank bank.
Water
Install a Low-Flow Showerhead
I will save up to 15 gallons (56 L) of water a day by installing a low-flow showerhead.
Water
Insulate Water Pipes and Water Heater
I will avoid wasting water while waiting for the shower or sink to heat up.
Water
Collect Rain Water
I will create a rain garden or bioswale, or use rain barrels to collect water for outdoor watering needs.
Water
Eco-friendly Gardening
I will plant native species, landscape with water-efficient plants, and use eco-friendly fertilizers.
Food
Try a New Way to Prep
I will try a new method of food preparation, such as canning, pickling, or baking bread.
Food
Buy From a Farmers Market
I will purchase produce and meat from a local farmers market or food co-op.
Community
Talk To My Friends and Colleagues
I will research the social or environmental issues in my community that matter to me and tell 5 friends and/or colleagues each day about what I learn.
Simplicity
De-Clutter My Home
I will de-clutter, clean, and donate or recycle unneeded items in my home.
Community
Raise Money For a Nonprofit
I will raise money to support Northwest Earth Institute or another local nonprofit.
Participant Feed

Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Shannon Tocchini 10/25/2018 12:54 PMCongrats Port of Portland EcoChallenge Team!
We learned and laughed, we improved our health and knowledge, and we came in at 20th in a field of 842 teams. We also won two of our three team challenges (and on a per-participant point basis, we were winners all the way around). Way to go! Special recognition to Nicole Campbell - who was our EcoChallenge Champion and point leader for most of the event. Nicole also served as an awesome co-captain this year.
For those of you who earned 250 points or more and wish to pursue the Wellness credit incentive: Submit documentation of the activity to Courtney Rust, [email protected], (x 6311) by printing out your EcoChallenge home page that includes your total points, challenges participated in, and feed history by Wednesday, November 21, 2018 and sending via interoffice mail or email a screen shot of the dashboard to her.
Erin, Nicole and I will follow up in the next week or two with the Port SWAG winners and transfer of the official EcoChallenge Champion trophy. Thanks again to all who participated and made a good showing in the EcoChallenge on behalf of the Port!

Remember to post, log completed actions, consider completing a few one time actions and even recruit. And have fun building eco-groovy and healthy habits. -
