REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteReducing your paper mail can be such a freeing action to take -- by reducing what is coming in, you can reduce what is going into the recycling bin too. How does it make you feel? What is the next step you will take to reduce your waste?
Carly Tubridy 10/09/2018 2:21 PMI have been trying to go completely paperless for all bills for years. I hate getting bills in the mail, because they just end up in the trash when I open my computer to pay them! My next step is getting reducing the paper coupons I receive...they are all already on my phone! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicityMindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How do your eating experiences differ when practicing mindfulness?
Carly Tubridy 10/09/2018 2:16 PMMy conversations with people are more engaging and feel more relaxed. Dinners at home often have consisted of dinner and TV, but after a while of practicing mindfulness, I think I will continue this practice after the competition is over. It feels healthier to not be looking at a screen! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealthHow can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?
Carly Tubridy 10/09/2018 2:13 PMMy boyfriend and I have started walking to and from the grocery store as many times a week that our schedule allows. It is an easy way to get exercise and chat about our days all in one! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodMichael Pollan states that "it is better to pay the grocer (our edit: or the farmer!) than the doctor." What are your thoughts on this?
Carly Tubridy 10/09/2018 2:12 PMI can feel the difference in my energy level and alertness when I focus on eating healthy food and when I can I try to support local farmers. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reuseable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to establish this a successful habit?
Carly Tubridy 10/09/2018 2:08 PMDefinitely when I am leaving my family members homes. They physically can't allow me to leave without loads of food, which I often end up putting in a plastic bag. If I keep reusable bags in my car I won't have an excuse! -
Carly Tubridy 10/09/2018 2:07 PMThis challenge has made me more thoughtful of my impact on the Earth. For a long time I have been saying I would make some of these changes, but now that it is a competition I am doing it and they are easy, sustainable changes (like using reusable bags for groceries)!
