Heidi's actions
Water
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Food
Whole Foods Diet
I will enjoy 2 meal(s) each day free of processed foods.
Energy
Switch to Cold Water
I will switch to washing my clothes in cold water, saving up to 1,600 lbs of C02 over the course of the next year.
Health
Happiness
I will write down three things every day that I am grateful for, or send one email every day thanking or praising someone.
Health
More Fruits and Veggies
I will eat a heart healthy diet by adding 4 cup(s) of fruits and vegetables each day to achieve at least 4 cups per day.
Health
Exercise Daily
Exercise is a great stress blaster! I will exercise for 30 minute(s) each day.
Food
Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
I will watch 1 documentary(ies) about food sovereignty: the right of local peoples to control their own food systems including markets, ecological resources, food cultures and production methods.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Whole Foods DietMichael Pollan states that "it is better to pay the grocer (our edit: or the farmer!) than the doctor." What are your thoughts on this?
Heidi Van Brocklin 10/03/2018 9:13 AMYes, I agree. It's better to invest in organic fruits and vegetables and unprocessed foods that may cost more and be on the preventative side versus paying medical bills related to unhealthy eating.-
Linda Gerber 10/22/2018 2:06 PMAnd, as I'm discovering, as we age the consequence of our eating habits multiply each year. Michael Pollan is so right!
