Create Your Own Action
The Big Move
My goal is to live in a more sustainable manner. I chose this because of a move from a rental home in town to purchasing a home in a rural area. Raising a garden and processing the produce (we only garden organically and currently process by freeze drying, dehydrating, canning, pickling), raising our own meat (rabbits, chickens, possibly larger animals) as much as possible and knowing that they are raised and harvested in a way that honors the animal; again, as organically as possible. Composting more than we currently do as well as recycling/reusing/repurposing more items.
Nature
Support Local Pollinators
At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators to produce fruit. I will spend 60 minutes researching which plants support local native pollinators and plant some in my yard.
Waste
Use Reusable Bags
I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Sherry Walker 10/08/2018 12:13 PMGoal for this week: Be more energy efficient in the home by turning the thermostat down during the day, using minimal lighting and making sure any unused electronics are turned completely off (computer, coffee maker when leaving the house, etc.) -
Sherry Walker 10/03/2018 2:58 PMHaving just stated this challenge at nearly 4:00 p.m. today, I haven't had a chance to complete any of the tasks chosen. However, once I get home, I always make sure that unused lights are turned off, heat is turned down to a minimum. I will compost any items used today that can be composted. I will conserve water by making sure that I'm not overwatering the yard. I am also in the midst of making some peach jam to be preserved by bottling.
