Christine's actions
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 1 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Waste
Compost Food Waste
I will avoid sending up to .69 lbs (.31 kg) of food waste to the landfill each day by composting my food or learning how to.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Waste
Use a Reusable Mug
I will avoid sending 1 disposable cup(s) to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.
Health
Go get a check up
I will make an appointment for my annual physical.
Waste
Choose Two-Sided Printing
I will save up to .21 lbs (.09 kg) of paper each day by switching from one-sided printing to two-sided.
Food
Plant an Herb Garden
I will plant an herb garden in my home, workplace, or dorm room.
Health
Know My health
I will get my Core Four Biometrics tests (blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar and BMI).
Food
Join a Local CSA
I will sign up for a local CSA (Community-Supported Agriculture).
Food
Buy From a Farmers Market
I will purchase produce and meat from a local farmers market or food co-op.
Energy
Choose Clean/Renewable Energy
I will sign up for my utility company's clean/renewable energy option.
Community
Support Native Communities
I will use the resource links provided and spend 5 minutes learning about the native populations that lived in my area prior to colonization, and what I can do to support those that still exist.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Christine White 10/24/2018 3:38 PMThe challenge is over and is has been a great experience for me and my family. I have been religious about using only durable cups and reusable water bottles, and have shown my son how to do that too. I have learned more about native communities and renewable energy, and have made an appointment for my annual physical, which I don't usually do. I believe I will continue to focus on no paper cups and no plastic water bottles, as I feel better about my contributions when I do this, and look forward to talking to my doctor about my general health. -
Christine White 10/15/2018 1:22 PMTurned down a plastic straw at Killer Burger (my burger was hemp) the other day, and just drank the iced tea, even though it had lots of ice and was messy. Better than polluting the ocean. -
Christine White 10/11/2018 6:10 PMNot sure if I articulated why I am participating, but especially in light of the recent IPCC report, it is more important than ever for each of us to take responsibility for our actions in terms of the environment, especially for climate. If everyone made some effort, we would be in a better situation in terms of adaptation.-

Christine White 10/08/2018 3:16 PMForgot my durable cup but borrowed one from the Port kitchen. Just a little bit more effort for the environment! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Choose Clean/Renewable EnergyHow might you be able to get others involved in advocating for the shift to clean energy?

REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Support Native CommunitiesIndigenous speaker and activist Winona LaDuke says that, "most indigenous ceremonies, if you look to their essence, are about the restoration of balance — they are a reaffirmation of our relationship to creation. That is our intent: to restore, and then to retain balance and honor our part in creation." Why is balance important to sustainability?
Christine White 10/05/2018 12:17 PMsustainability is about all the parts supporting the whole, so balance achieves that ultimate goal of keeping all parts of the ecosystem working. -
Christine White 10/03/2018 1:09 PMUsing my reusable cup the whole day and making my son do the same (despite some complaints...) -
Christine White 9/18/2018 12:58 PMClimate change and preserving our environment are some of the most important challenges we face today to ensure quality of life for everyone on the planet. Being mindful of my actions everyday helps keep this as a priority.
