Use Reusable Bags
I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.
Energy
Adjust the Thermostat
I will adjust my thermostat down 2 degrees from usual when I use the heat, and up 2 degrees when I use air conditioning.
Waste
Visit a Waste Management Facility
I will spend at least 20 minutes visiting a local dump/transfer station, material recovery facility, and/or landfill to learn about the waste stream.
Waste
Recycle Everything I Can
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will spend 10 minutes researching and recycling all materials that are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community.
Waste
Find Local Recycling Depots
I will spend at least 20 minutes finding out where to recycle the recyclable items that I can't put in my curbside bin.

REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergyYour utility company is able to tell you your average energy usage. Ask them how your energy usage compares to others in your zipcode, and in your state. What other steps can you take each day to reduce your electricity usage?
Jody Wickler 10/15/2018 7:17 AMWe turn down the heat in the AM. We Covered all the windows with plastic. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reuseable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to establish this a successful habit?
Jody Wickler 10/09/2018 2:19 PMI buy a new bag if I don't have one and I am already at the check out. Otherwise, I unpack my groceries and then put the bags back in the car. (helps me get extra steps in too) :)-
Marianne Greco 10/09/2018 2:28 PMJody, I did the same thing for a while! After a few unnecessary "repurchases" of totes at the checkout, I started to remember to bring them. The prospect of wasting money is a great memory jog!
