REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhat do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than in other places, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How do we start shifting a meat-focused food culture?
Bailey Williams 10/10/2018 3:40 PMI think we're trying to do everything fast and convenient. It takes more time to be thoughtful about your meals instead of just stopping for a cheeseburger. We have to start making food more affordable as well because if it's not accessible it's not equitable. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Support Businesses Owned by People of ColorKeen Independent Research Foundation conducted a recent study that highlights the disparities in the availability of city contracts and loans to businesses, and how this disparity correlates to owners as people of color. The study showed that Minority businesses enterprises (MBEs) are more likely to have difficulties in receiving loans or city contracts. In what ways can you address systemic racism?
Bailey Williams 10/08/2018 2:54 PMAs a Black woman who has started a business I can make sure to hire and support other Minority businesses. I can promote their businesses as well and encourage my friends and family to support them. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Meet My NeighborsIn what ways can you create more real, face-to-face interactions with friends — or strangers — each week?
Bailey Williams 10/08/2018 2:52 PMWhen I walk to my car I make sure to say Hi to all of the neighbors I pass in my apartment complex. When I cook something extra this week like muffins, I'll offer some to my neighbor across the hall. And when I'm in public places I'll spend less time staring at my phone and more time trying to interact with people. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Go get a check upHow do you practice self care?
Bailey Williams 10/04/2018 12:56 PMI practice self care by always making my therapy appointments. I also take time to do things that I enjoy like cooking, spending time with friends and family. I also make sure to clean my apartment and tidy up because this helps me have a clear mind and allows me to relax fully. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable Water BottleWhile water bottles serve an important role in places for health and safety, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. Can you identify the barriers in making this a new habit? How can you set yourself up for success in making this a permanent change?
Bailey Williams 10/03/2018 11:30 AMSome barriers that stop me from making this a habit are forgetfulness and connivence. If I forget my water bottle it's easy to just grab one at the store because they're cheap. But they add up after awhile. I will use glasses when I'm at home and work. And make sure to leave a note on my way out to grab my water bottle.
