REFLECTION QUESTIONWaterName some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?
Sreenath Yalamarthi 10/16/2018 6:23 AMUsings lakes live or dead as landfills. The debris from demolished buildings and structures are transported and dumped into these lakes eventually encroaching them to build commercial and residential spaces over them. When it rains in a particular season, rainwater overflows into the neighbourhoods, roads causing damage to lives and property apart from inconvenience to everyone around. All such rain water then escapes into drains nearby mixing with sewage and it does not help to recharge ground water table as well. This is a common scenario in Bangalore. And in cities like Chennai once upon a time rivers like Adyar have turned into sewage canals that finally end up in the oceans. Creating public awareness and sensitizing people and local industries not to use lakes and rivers for passing industrial waste or urban sewage. The governments also need to take responsibility and commit themselves overall to preserve the environment.
