  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Work from Home
It takes the average worker in the United States 26 minutes to travel to work. One way to fix long commutes would be to make cities more affordable. An even simpler option: promote the use of telework. Are you in an industry that would allow you to work from home? What are some obstacles you might find yourself facing while working from home?

I do work from home often; but I also travel further distances for meetings - averaging 25-30 minutes depending on location. I try to bike or work from home more often to offset the longer commutes to meetings. I also try to meet over google hangouts or phone calls to save drive time.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Drive Less
How has your access to various kinds of transportation throughout your life influenced your current attitudes about transportation and your transportation behavior?

I always want to live in a city that has great public transportation or is biker friendly. Moving away from a car-centric society/culture is important in my life.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Nature Go for a Daily Walk
How do you experience your neighborhood or city differently when walking instead of driving?

Much more relaxed. People are people, not boxes on wheels.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Reduce Animal Products
What do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than in other places, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How do we start shifting a meat-focused food culture?

Meat holds certain status value. It also stems from predominantly European roots, where many cultures have meat heavy meals. If families can afford meat, it holds them to a certain level of income status.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Weekly Meal Planning
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?

Rather spend money on experiences with friends and family, like travel.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Use Reusable Bags
What do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reuseable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to establish this a successful habit?

I usually carry things out by hand or put some items in my purse if they fit.
