LHB Feed

BACK TO TEAM PAGE

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Water Say No to Plastic Straws
What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?

I try to stay clear of single use items. There's a water bottle at my desk, reusable shopping bags in my car, and I've given up straws all together.

Health Audit Toxic Cleaning Products in my Home
To what extent do you believe that environmental factors contribute to your own health or issues with health?

I've incorporated natural cleaning products into my weekly routine to eliminate the toxins in commercially prepared products. Vinegar and baking soda are a staple at my house.

    Waste Skip the Straw
How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?

Definitely more aware of reducing, reusing and repurposing things both at the office and home.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Find Local Recycling Depots
Our ability to recycle certain things ebbs and flows based upon many factors. Luckily there are places that accept uncommon things to recycle or dispose of in a less harmful way. What did you find when looking for places to recycle items that can't be recycled in your curbside bin?

Luckily my husband works for Hennepin County and knows where all the drop off spots are for things that our curbside recycler won't take. Lucky me!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Water Fix Leaky Faucets
Fixing leaky faucets is one of the tasks that we can easily put off until later. Good job on completing this action! How will you use the momentum from completing this action to increase your water efficiency?

I plan to take stock of water that is wasted, especially through cooking and cleaning and research how I can reduce that use.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Water Install a Low-Flow Showerhead
How can your region/household prepare for changing water situations in order to become more resilient?

When I have the budget to re-landscape, I'm going to research local plants that require less water.  For every fixture I replace, I will choose a low flow fixture.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

My biggest concern is the amount of water that goes into the manufacturing process and how our fresh water supply is affected by the manufacturing process.  Food packaging and takeout bags is a contributor to this problem.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Choose Clean/Renewable Energy
How might you be able to get others involved in advocating for the shift to clean energy?

You can get others involved by hosting a brown bag lunch and learn in your office.  You can contact your utility provider for any programs or information.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Nature Enjoy the Sunrise/Sunset
Father Thomas Berry says, "...our primary purpose is celebration. Celebration of the dawn and the sunset and the different seasons of the year is a religious ritual, a way in which humans can establish their integral relationship with the universe, with the planet Earth." Respond to Berry's assertion.

Part of life's mystery lies in the rising and setting of the sun...the miracle of the change of seasons.  How can we not respect this earth and all it gives us?
