New to composting? Be sure to check out the action resource links to learn tips and more about it. As you transition from throwing food away to composting, what do you notice about how much you are tossing? Do you know how your compost will be used and the benefits it has on the environment?

New to composting - are there any bags out there that don't easily rip into unusable pieces of plastic?  That may be the most frustrating part right now. I am wasting bags because they rip to the point of being unusable.

Other than the bags, all is well.  I notice that I am more mindful of consuming fresh produce since starting the challenge and starting composting (because I only want to throw scraps away, not whole pieces of food that rotted which invokes a personal sense of waste).

Can anyone tell me where Portland Compost goes?

How do you experience your neighborhood or city differently when walking instead of driving?

My neighborhood is filled with murals painted on the sides of the commercial buildings...I rarely, if ever, notice them while driving. When walking, I can stop and take them in and find amazing, clever nuances in each mural...things you wouldn't notice passing by in a car.

How can you prevent yourself from accumulating more things in the future?

I can prevent the accumulation of excess by donating or purging an old item when I buy a similar, new item.  Shoes, clothes, kitchen wares, technology gadgets, etc.
