Leslie Brunker 10/24/2018 12:33 PMTonight I have a class where I will do a complicated bus/MAX ride to get there. I'm so into this public transportation thing! I love taking advantage of living in a city with this kind of resource. -
Leslie Brunker 10/23/2018 9:49 AMI have been in San Diego. Does air travel count as public transportation? -
Leslie Brunker 10/16/2018 5:26 PMTook the bus to Rotary today and will take it out tonight to go to the Armory Theater. I love that I don't have to look for parking. I hope I continue to ride TriMet even when the weather turns ugly. ;) -
Leslie Brunker 10/15/2018 5:25 PMI like to walk and could actually walk to meetings downtown if I were to plan for the time and wear comfortable shoes. I think I'll do it and see how long it takes me.-
Liz Zavodsky (EcoChallenge Staff) 10/15/2018 7:59 PMNice! Especially this week - it's so lovely in Portland.

Leslie Brunker 10/13/2018 3:31 PMSaving water by flushing every 2nd or 3rd use. And then I use the captured water to refill the tank. Easy to do when it's just me at the house. When I have company, not so much. I also have been turning the shower off when I soap up or shave my legs so that the water doesn't just keep running down the drain. Pretty simple and easy changes to make. Cheers! -
Leslie Brunker 10/13/2018 3:27 PMTook the bus and transferred to the street car to get where I was going this morning. It's a nice day and it was nice to be outside. It's becoming more and more of a habit. Not quite ready to sell my car yet, but am really getting the hang of riding TriMet. -
Leslie Brunker 10/09/2018 9:12 AMHi everyone. Love your comments. Mike, I'm inspired by your reduction of screen time. Lately I've been watching too much news and it's not good for my mood. ;) I reloaded my HOP pass for the bus and am taking it a lot these days. Have a class out by the airport and I take the bus to the MAX station and sit on MAX out there and watch all the rush-hour traffic sitting on the freeway as we speed on by. Ahhh! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Conserve Toilet WaterWhat would a sustainable water future in your region look like? What needs to change?
Leslie Brunker 10/09/2018 9:07 AMWe all need to be more respectful of our water and not act like it's a never-ending resource. We waste an incredible amount of water every day as individuals, and even more as industry. Turn off the drinking fountains downtown!! Or at least put handles on them so we can turn them on for a drink but not run them constantly. Our state is in a drought but it's hard for us to realize it because we think of how much it rains here. Whenever I turn on the water I remind myself of people who have to walk for miles to get water to use every day. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Use Public TransitThe US spends roughly 20% of its federal budget on defense. In contrast, 2% goes to education, 20% goes to social security and 3% goes to transportation infrastructure. Do these numbers surprise you at all? Why or why not?
Leslie Brunker 10/09/2018 9:04 AMThese numbers don't surprise me given the military view and paranoia of this country. I would like to see us follow Costa Rica and reduce military spending while increasing education spending. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Walk InsteadHalf of all trips made in the US are three miles or less; 72% of them are driven. Do you feel that this fact applies to you? If so, how might you incorporate more muscle-powered transportation in your daily life?
Leslie Brunker 9/28/2018 7:09 PMI would say most of the trips I make are 5 miles or less, so using the bus instead of always getting my car out to go is easy and doesn't take any longer to get somewhere. Sometimes it actually saves me time when I don't have to drive around looking for a parking place.
