Natalia's actions
Nature
Forage for My Food
I will use the 'Learn More' resources below to find where I can forage for my own food locally.
Food
Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
I will watch 2 documentary(ies) about food sovereignty: the right of local peoples to control their own food systems including markets, ecological resources, food cultures and production methods.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Natalia Burgess 10/12/2018 8:01 AMNot too bad. It helps to curb eating out at the same time. That's when I'm most likely to use a straw. -
Natalia Burgess 10/09/2018 4:32 PMI joined the challenge to push myself learn more and make changes. I selected two "one-time" challenges and the goal to avoid straws. -
Natalia Burgess 10/09/2018 4:19 PMCreated a "Green Things" auction basket for our company's United Way fund raiser. There was a book entitled Zero Waste, printed on recycled paper , using soy ink.... 2 small plants, 2 reusable shopping bags, 5 reusable produce bags and, a package of reusable straws.
My challenge this time around isn't as ambitious as previous challenges - but I'm trying to make positive changes.-
Monica Martin 10/09/2018 4:21 PMThat's so cool. What a great idea. I would totally bid on that.

REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Forage for My FoodAmongst the motivations for foraging are: a source of food; means of income; connecting with nature; cultural tradition; or transmitting "local ecological knowledge, and a means for stewarding local and native plant populations" (McLain et al. 2012, 13). Which of these would be your chief motivation and why?
Natalia Burgess 10/09/2018 4:01 PMConnecting with nature would be my chief motivation given my current circumstances. I have picked fresh food and nothing beats the taste of fresh fruits and vegetables. There's something satisfying about making something from scratch. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Skip the StrawHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?
Natalia Burgess 10/09/2018 3:46 PMEnd the use of plastic items, unless they are reusable or recyclable.
Alternative resources should be considered... glass, bamboo, steel, etc.
