Bala Cadambi 10/10/2018 7:39 PMI started reading the Kon Mari approach to "tidy" before "clean" where the first implies managing one's mind (and resultant clutter) which one can control while the second is to manage "nature" i.e. dirt which is inevitable.
Marie recommends keeping only what gives one joy (which has many dimensions of sentiment, usefulness, beauty, etc) and giving away everything else.
I expect it will be a deliberate thoughtful read!! -
Bala Cadambi 10/08/2018 7:55 PMOn wait list for Marie Kondo's book from Washington libraries ... meanwhile thinning out misc paper backlog!! And preparing to once again call to be taken off various brochure mailings!!! -
Bala Cadambi 10/08/2018 10:15 AMHmmm ... not making much progress on de-cluttering goals :-( -
Bala Cadambi 10/05/2018 7:52 PMToday I kept my eyes closed for 10 minutes while exercising on the elliptical at the gym, cutting off the CNN and FOX TV screens, and losing awareness of others next to me. I could concentrate better on my posture and breath! -
Bala Cadambi 10/05/2018 7:50 PMI was thinking of the Vedantic saying that everything is Brahman, a small prayer we often recite before a meal, to recognize that the fire in food becomes the fire in us.
However keeping that thought in consciousness throughout the meal is the real goal! I should remind myself about that ... -
Bala Cadambi 10/05/2018 7:44 PMMy daughter reminded me to re-read Mario Condo book "The Life-changing Magic of Tidying Up" ... I intend to look for a copy in the library tomorrow. There is the mental exercise of deciding to part with things we may (or) not be sentimental about. And the physical legwork to find a reuse or recycle place to take it. I think I have some (lots) of both!!-

REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Eat MindfullyMindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How do your eating experiences differ when practicing mindfulness?
Bala Cadambi 10/04/2018 10:29 PMFood has so many connections beyond satisfying hunger!! Eating should be an experience in the present where we are grateful for the benevolence of nature, appreciate all the labour that went into growing and bringing it to our table. When we appreciate the presentation and flavors in every mouthful. And our thoughts are not elsewhere, distracted by media or worried about what tasks or worries lay in wait ahead. Easier said than done? -
Bala Cadambi 10/03/2018 9:40 PMA small beginning today. Had go remind myself to enjoy each bite without distraction. Keeping the mind focused feels like a stretch at 7-8 minutes. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity MeditateWhat would you like to invest more time in reflecting on?
Bala Cadambi 10/02/2018 9:49 AMI have set myself a modest 10 minute goal with the intent that it will become a daily habit. Intend to try it first thing in the morning and last thing at night.
