Nicole's actions
Simplicity
Needs Vs. Wants
I will adopt a "Needs Vs. Wants" approach and only buy things I need.
Simplicity
Meditate
I will meditate or create a moment of silence for 15 minute(s) each day to reflect on things important to me.
Waste
Recycle Everything I Can
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will spend 20 minutes researching and recycling all materials that are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Nicole Cronkhite 10/05/2018 10:47 AMThursday I had meetings all day and ended up missing lunch to do my capstone teacher check-in, so I indulged in "dinner" from Tim Hortons just before class and felt fairly guilty about it (it was like the plastic straw was staring at me the whole class). Trying not to make excuses but at the same time, it is hard to always be on the ball when we have busy lives! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Recycle Everything I CanWhat have you learned about what is accepted by local haulers for recycling, what you can drop off or ship to certain places, and what is not recyclable in your area? What is the most difficult part of recycling for you?
Nicole Cronkhite 10/04/2018 9:53 AMI found out interesting information like that styrofoam was not accepted, and that if you shred your papers or documents you cannot recycle them, they must be tossed in the trash. I also thought it was unfortunate that while the City of Edmonton had a fun and interactive waste game, you could only choose from three options where to dispose of the item that popped up: either recycle, take to the eco station, or toss. There was no option for composting, and when they had a banana peel pop up, I could only drag it to the garbage.
