REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable Water BottleWhile water bottles serve an important role in places for health and safety, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. Can you identify the barriers in making this a new habit? How can you set yourself up for success in making this a permanent change?
Yosheika Cummings 10/10/2018 8:09 AMIt all has to do with peoples risk perception of tap water. Many see tap water as unsafe when in actuality it is very treated. There is also a social construct that bottled water is better than tap water and that it taste better. The best way to make this successful is to not buy any bottled water and just rely on the water from the tap. If there is no bottled water around then one has no choice but to use tap water. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use Reusable BagsWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reuseable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to establish this a successful habit?
Yosheika Cummings 10/10/2018 6:51 AMThis has happened to me before and what I did was carry my stuff out in my hands. I only purchased a few things so it made sense to take it out in my hands. If I had more things then I would take them out in my cart without bags. The best system that would work is to have the reuseable bags in the car at all times. I would also put a sticky note on my windshield just so I don't forget. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhat do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than in other places, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How do we start shifting a meat-focused food culture?
Yosheika Cummings 10/10/2018 6:39 AMI think it has to do with our culture and the cost of living. In some countries the price of meat is too expensive so they have to come up with more affordable options. Agriculture is a valued resource in North America and we tend to live on the more luxury side of life. It would take time before we make that shift, but is possible. Educating the public would help but it would be better if we introduced creative ways that make a plant based diet fun and easy. Many individuals are conditioned to think that a vegetarian or vegan diet is hard. So, the best way to make the shift is to show the nation how to have a plant-based diet.
