REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable MugMaybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reuseable one but it's just hard to make the switch. Think about what stands in your way of making this a habit. By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?
Harder Family 10/10/2018 5:37 PMIt's easier to do at home, or in environments you have control over! Now that I have a mug at work, the barrier is much lower. Just have to make sure to keep it clean. :) -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Exercise DailyHow can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?
Harder Family 10/05/2018 4:59 PMQuality time with friends is important and can easily be incorporated into a walk around the neighborhood; the most challenging thing is finding a time that isn't insanely hot/humid. One reason we picked our location was to make it easier to exercise "in nature." The live oaks shading the streets and the parks make living in such a large city a little more bearable. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhat do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than in other places, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How do we start shifting a meat-focused food culture?
Harder Family 10/03/2018 2:44 PMMy family heritage is the farming, meat and potatoes type, where meat is seen as a right. But now that we are no longer raising our own animals within an ecosystem where butchering helps with the overall balance of that system, consuming meat in such quantities is much less of a need and more of a desire. Reframing it as a desire helps shift my mindset of assuming meat must be a part of every meal. -
Harder Family 10/02/2018 1:02 PMLauren, are we creating a customized action related to recycling at HMC so that we can all track our progress towards it?-
Clarke Ohlendorf 10/03/2018 8:50 AMI see one that Lauren made and is in her list of actions, but not sure how that's leveraged for the whole team. Would probably be good if we could have it be unified somehow, but not sure how that works...
"Recycling at HMCOur goal is to be more mindful with the resources we use while in our church building, including decreasing paper towel usage, and making sure that we are recycling various materials correctly." -
Lauren Mascioli 10/03/2018 5:47 AMJust made one this morning, called "Recycling at HMC"
