Thank you Team Randall for a job well done.  This is the last day to update all your recycling efforts and such.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Recycle Everything I Can
What have you learned about what is accepted by local haulers for recycling, what you can drop off or ship to certain places, and what is not recyclable in your area? What is the most difficult part of recycling for you?

Items allowed to be picked up by local haulers is somewhat smaller compared to the list of items you can take to the local recycling station.  Contaminated soil is not recyclable in my area, which leads me to question where would an item like this go and what is considered contaminated.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Use a Reusable Mug
Maybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reuseable one but it's just hard to make the switch. Think about what stands in your way of making this a habit. By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?

I forget to grab a mug before I have left the house but i have stocked the office with reusable mugs.
I have also stared carrying a glass water bottle that I refill while at work
I do feel good about the small steps taken so far and share them with friends
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Choose LED Bulbs
Changing lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! In what other ways can you exercise your civic duty to protect the environment and reduce carbon emissions?

I unplug devices when not in use, both at home and in the office.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Adjust the Thermostat
Your utility company is able to tell you your average energy usage. Ask them how your energy usage compares to others in your zipcode, and in your state. What other steps can you take each day to reduce your electricity usage?

I have not turned on the lights in my office all week from 9am to 4pm.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Use Reusable Bags
What do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reuseable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to establish this a successful habit?

If the items are few, I will carry them out of the store without a bag. If not I will at least ask for paper.  I have put 2 reusable bags in the trunk of my car to avoid having to use the store's bags.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Go Paperless
Reducing your paper mail can be such a freeing action to take -- by reducing what is coming in, you can reduce what is going into the recycling bin too. How does it make you feel? What is the next step you will take to reduce your waste?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food Try a New Way to Prep
Canning and pickling food is a great way to have delicious summer fruits and vegetables all year round. Just make sure to follow the canning and pickling guidelines from the USDA. What are some foods that you would like to preserve and enjoy later in the year?

Yesterday I carried my items purchased out the door in my arms instead of accepting a plastic bag (at Michael's Craft Store).   Today, I put reusable bags in the trunk of my car to have on hand at all times.
