Waste
Personal Waste Audit
I will collect all of my unrecyclable, non-compostable trash to raise my awareness of how much I send to the landfill.
Waste
Go Paperless
I will reduce the amount of paper mail that I receive by opting into paperless billing and ending unwanted subscriptions.
Waste
Advocate For More Food Packaging Options
I will advocate for alternatives to single-use packaging at local grocery stores, markets, at work, or on campus.
Waste
Compost Food Waste
I will avoid sending up to .69 lbs (.31 kg) of food waste to the landfill each day by composting my food or learning how to.
Waste
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Historically, marginalized and low-income communities live closer to landfills, contributing to a multitude of health problems. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate.
Waste
Recycle Everything I Can
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will spend 30 minutes researching and recycling all materials that are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Advocate For More Food Packaging OptionsWhat concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.
Lindsey Hudson 10/22/2018 11:03 AMWhat really bothers me is how much packaging there really is around our food, some fruit is unpeeled and wrapped in plastic, which is entirely unnecessary. I've started going to my local farmers market with reusable produce bags to help reduce my food packaging -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Reduce Single-Use DisposablesBringing your own bags and containers to the grocery store, and even to restaurants for leftovers, are a couple of ways to reduce your waste. What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Lindsey Hudson 10/22/2018 11:00 AMI work at a coffee shop, meaning I drink a lot of coffee and carrying around a reusable mug has cut a lot of trash out just in cups. I also take a reusable water bottle with me everywhere, which is amazing because my water is always cold so there's a benefit there without even thinking about the trash I'm not making -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Compost Food WasteNew to composting? Be sure to check out the action resource links to learn tips and more about it. As you transition from throwing food away to composting, what do you notice about how much you are tossing? Do you know how your compost will be used and the benefits it has on the environment?
Lindsey Hudson 10/22/2018 10:57 AMI do have a lot of food waste which I need to fix. I plan on making a vermicomposter for a small apartment after doing my research I think that will be the best way for me to do my own composting -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Recycle Everything I CanWhat have you learned about what is accepted by local haulers for recycling, what you can drop off or ship to certain places, and what is not recyclable in your area? What is the most difficult part of recycling for you?
Lindsey Hudson 10/22/2018 10:56 AMI've done a lot of research on what kinds of plastics are good for recycling and what isn't, I still plan to go to my local recycling center and continue my research. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Go PaperlessReducing your paper mail can be such a freeing action to take -- by reducing what is coming in, you can reduce what is going into the recycling bin too. How does it make you feel? What is the next step you will take to reduce your waste?
Lindsey Hudson 10/22/2018 10:55 AMI love that I'm getting less mail, I always wanted to reduce how much mail I get because it clutters the house.
