Waste

Waste
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Historically, marginalized and low-income communities live closer to landfills, contributing to a multitude of health problems. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate.
Waste
Visit a Waste Management Facility
I will spend at least 15 minutes visiting a local dump/transfer station, material recovery facility, and/or landfill to learn about the waste stream.
Waste
Go Paperless
I will reduce the amount of paper mail that I receive by opting into paperless billing and ending unwanted subscriptions.
Waste
Personal Waste Audit
I will collect all of my unrecyclable, non-compostable trash to raise my awareness of how much I send to the landfill.
Waste
Choose Two-Sided Printing
I will save up to .21 lbs (.09 kg) of paper each day by switching from one-sided printing to two-sided.
Waste
Use Reusable Bags
I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Reduce Single-Use DisposablesBringing your own bags and containers to the grocery store, and even to restaurants for leftovers, are a couple of ways to reduce your waste. What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Choose Two-Sided PrintingChoosing two-sided printing can be an easy adjustment on your computer settings. How can you help others make this same switch? Can it be encouraged company wide?
Pranav Jampani 9/11/2018 11:38 PMI’ll educate others on the environmental benefits of going two-sided printing and encourage them to do the same. I’ll talk to management and incorporate this practice into all departments SOPs.-
Chris Kane 9/12/2018 9:10 AMI'd ask management to encourage it through SOPs like Pranav said; when i was working I always used it and when folks asked why I told them; i true to lead by example.

Pranav Jampani 9/11/2018 11:25 PMExcited to empower others to become change agents for the greater environmental and social good, to create a better tomorrow and a sustainable future!!-
Chris Kane 9/12/2018 9:13 AMIn my mind there are thousands of ways to do that, but I would have to say that in general leading by example is the easiest way to do it. You can't encourage everyone to buy an EV because of costs, but you can show them how to get better mileage or group errands, etc.; using water bottles, etc.
